Environmental protection is an important agenda of this
administration. The city's sanitary squad was first set up in 1978, responsible for
maintaining the city's cleanliness. The efficiency of the squad has won many
national contents and commendations, and much appreciated by the residents.
By end July 2001, the squad
has a total of 236 members, 104 work vehicles. The primary tasks encompass transport and
disposal of wastes, resource recycle, maintenance of street cleanliness and street trees
as well as roadway patching, cleaning, environment fumigation and capture of stray
animals.
