::: Environmental Protection

       Environmental protection is an important agenda of this administration. The city's sanitary squad was first set up in 1978, responsible for maintaining the city's cleanliness.  The efficiency of the squad has won many national contents and commendations, and much appreciated by the residents.

      By end July 2001, the squad has a total of 236 members, 104 work vehicles. The primary tasks encompass transport and disposal of wastes, resource recycle, maintenance of street cleanliness and street trees as well as roadway patching, cleaning, environment fumigation and capture of stray animals.

       First Place, county governed city category, provincial clean environment contest in 1990, 1991, 1993.
       Second Place, county governed city category, provincial clean environment contest in 1992, 1994, 1995.
       Third Place, county governed city category, provincial clean environment contest in 1996.
       Rating of excellent performance for waste reduction & resource recycle by EPA in 1996.
       Rating of excellent performance for waste resource recycle by EPA in 1997.
       Rating of excellent performance for waste resource recycle, county governed city category, by EPA in 1999.
       First place of resource recycle contest sponsored by Taichung County Government in 2000.
       First place of clean environment contest sponsored by Taichung County Government in 2000.
